There are currently two Covid vaccines being administered in India which include the Covaxin that has been developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech, and Covishield that has been developed by the Oxford-AstraZeneca and is being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India. Sputnik V which was developed in Russia and is imported and sold in India by Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories – has also been approved by the Indian drug regulator.

When will CoWIN registration start?

Register for COVID-19 vaccine from today on the government’s CoWin platform –  cowin.gov.in, the Aarogya Setu app, and Umang App as the government gears up to launch the third phase of the immunisation drive on May 1. Amid deadly Covid-19 second wave surge, the Centre had said that all Indian adults will be eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine starting May 1. The inoculation process and documents to be provided to get the jab to remain the same.

From May 1, the present system of private COVID-19 vaccination centres receiving doses from the government and charging up to Rs 250 per dose from people will cease to exist and private hospitals will procure directly from vaccine manufacturers. However, those aged 45 years and above can still avail the facility of on-site registration to get vaccinated.

Do I have to register for the Covid vaccine?

The registration for the next phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive for citizens above 18 years of age started today on Umang app and Arogya Setu app at 4 pm. You can also register through the CoWin platform.
Eligible citizens can now book their slots online via the government’s Co-WIN portal or the Aarogya Setu app, that was launched last year.

Until now, only people above 45 years of age, healthcare and frontline workers were allowed to take the vaccine. However, from May 1 onwards, all the adult citizens will be able to get vaccinated after mandatory registration for the same, said the government.

How to Register through CoWIN portal

  • Visit the CoWIN website and click on Register/Sign in yourself.
  • Add your mobile number and click on Get OTP. After receiving the OTP, type the digits on the site, and click on ‘Verify’.
  • Enter all your details, including photo ID proof, name, gender, and year of birth on the ‘Register for Vaccination’ page. Once this is done, hit Register.
  • After you register, you will get the option to schedule an appointment. Click on ‘Schedule’ next to the name of the person registered.
  • Add your pin code and click on Search. The centres in the added pin code will appear.
  • Select the date and time and click on ‘Confirm’.

How to Register through the Aarogya Setu app

  • Open the Aarogya Setu app and click on the CoWIN tab present on the home screen.
  • Select ‘Vaccination Registration’ and then enter your phone number. You will receive an OTP and then you can proceed to verify yourself.
  • On the ‘Register for Vaccination’ page, enter all details, including photo ID proof, name, gender, and year of birth. Click on ‘Register’.
  • After you register, you will get the option to schedule an appointment. Click on Schedule next to the name of the person registered.
  • Add your pin code and click on Search. The centres in the added pin code will appear.
  • Select the date and time and click on ‘Confirm’.

How To Register Through UMANG App?

  • On the Umang App homepage, go to ‘CoWin’ tab
  • Click on ‘Register or Login For Vaccination’
  • Enter your mobile number and click ‘Submit’
  • You will receive an OTP on the mobile number, enter the OTP and click ‘Verify OTP’
  • Select your Photo ID Proof, enter the Photo ID number, name as per the ID, Year of Birth and Gender. Click on ‘Submit’
  • You will get the popup Beneficiary added successfully. Click ‘Ok’
  • You will be automatically redirected to a new page. You can add up to 4 more beneficiaries using the ‘Add More’ button
  • Click on the checkbox to select the beneficiaries and click on ‘Schedule Appointment’
  • You can search the center using Pincode or District. Enter Pincode or district, select the date, vaccine and click ‘Search’
  • You will get a list of centers. Click on ‘View time slots’ on your preferred center, select the preferred slot and click ‘Confirm’ on the Appointment confirmation page
  • You will get the SMS for the appointment confirmed on your registered mobile number
  • You can also download the confirmation page as a PDF or save it on your phone
